India is one of the best places to buy LEGO, if you wait for the sale
, 17 min read
On an ordinary day India is about level with the US for LEGO. In a sale its best price beats the US shelf price on 78 of 84 sets I compared, and even a 30%-off sale in the UK on 67% of them.
On an ordinary day, India is a middling place to buy LEGO: about level with the US, cheaper than the UK and Europe. During a sale, it beats all three shelf prices. Most people only ever see one half of that. I track 100 LEGO sets in India. This month I started with every set in LEGO.in’s October sale plus every set I follow on Amazon India, left out the ones I could not compare fairly (retired sets, sets with no official price, reseller-only listings), and put the remaining 95 next to their official price in the US, the UK and Europe. This is what the numbers say.
84 sets with a price in India today (95 measured; 11 have no India price right now). Prices as of 9 October 2026. Exchange rates: US$1 = ₹96.73, £1 = ₹127.89, €1 = ₹108.40 (European Central Bank rates, 9 October 2026).
1. On a normal day, India is about level with the US
Every country sets its own list prices for LEGO. Take the 52 sets in LEGO.in’s sale at their regular LEGO.in price and compare with the official price abroad, converted at today’s rate. LEGO.in is dearer than the US on 46 of 52, by 8% for the typical set. But it is cheaper than the UK on 49 of 52 and than Europe on 32: the typical set is 6% under the UK price and 1% under Europe’s.
Amazon India tells the same story. For the 69 sets with a year of record, the price a set usually sells for (what it has sold for most of the last year) is 2% above the US shelf price for the typical set, 12% below the UK’s and 8% below Europe’s.
One thing tilts the comparison against India: Indian prices include GST, UK and European prices include VAT, and US shelf prices do not include sales tax. So against the US, India looks dearer than it is. A buyer in India pays the shelf price, so I use the shelf price throughout.
2. Then the sales come, and they are deep
For every set I track, I know its usual price. For each month, I looked at the lowest price each set reached, and asked how many sets got 25% or more under their usual price.
Share of the 87 sets with a year of record that reached 25% or more under their usual price in the month, by their lowest price that month. *October 2026 is the first nine days only.
Most months, nothing happens. In November, December, February and June, almost no set gets that deep: 4%, 5%, 0% and 5% of the sets, in that order. Then July arrives, when 51% of the sets reach at least 15% under their usual price and the typical set’s lowest price is 15% under. And then October, the festival sale: 62% of the sets are 25% or more under their usual price, 48% are 35% or more under, and the typical set’s lowest price is 34% under what it normally costs. (My records start on 7 October 2025, so I cannot see last year’s September festival, which Amazon opened on 23 September.)
That is what a real sale looks like in India. It is concentrated in a few weeks, it is deep, and it covers most of the range rather than a handful of sets. The rest of the year is the same price as always.
3. The same sets, in four countries
For each of the 84 sets I took the lowest price you could pay in India today, from LEGO.in or Amazon India, whichever was lower, and compared it with the official shelf price in the US, UK and Europe.
The typical set costs 28% less than the US shelf price, 37% less than the UK’s and 35% less than Europe’s. The best India price is below the US shelf price on 78 of 84 sets. Put the whole basket together: the 84 sets cost ₹9,79,808 at India’s best prices, against ₹13,02,001 at US shelf prices, ₹14,95,438 in the UK and ₹14,28,683 in Europe. That is 25% below the US, 34% below the UK and 31% below Europe. LEGO.in had the lower price on 47 sets and Amazon India on 37, so it pays to check both. Where a set is sold by both, Amazon matched or beat LEGO.in’s sale price on 5 of 17.
4. The sets worth waiting for
Some sets are worth waiting for more than others, and this is the list I would act on. I chose these sets by a rule that is about the size of the gap, not about what is typical: a set had to be at least 30% below the US shelf price and at least ₹3,000 cheaper at its best India price today. 20 of the 84 sets pass. They are the exception, not the rule: the typical set is 28% less, as above.
Together these 20 sets cost ₹2,36,665 in India against ₹4,10,116 at US shelf prices, 42% less. Every one of them also beats a 30%-off sale in the UK and in the US. 14 are cheapest at LEGO.in and 6 at Amazon India. The twelve with the biggest rupee saving:

The other 8, by rupees saved: Tintin Moon Rocket (₹5,278, 34%); Gremlins: Gizmo (₹5,139, 48%); Floating Sea Otters (₹4,408, 38%); McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna (₹4,088, 53%); Nike Air Max 95 (₹3,673, 38%); Four Weapons Blacksmith 15th Anniversary (₹3,673, 38%); Thing's Apartment (₹3,246, 37%); Flower Wall (₹3,206, 37%).
5. The honest test: a sale against a sale
A shelf price is not what the best-informed buyer abroad pays. They wait for their own sale. I could not measure foreign sale prices: LEGO.com and the large US retailers do not let me read their pages, and the reports of how deep their sales go were summaries I could not open in full. So instead of assuming one number, I tested a range. How often does India’s best price today beat a foreign sale that takes 20%, 30% or 40% off the shelf price?
| A foreign sale at | US | UK | Europe |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20% off | 63% of sets | 90% of sets | 83% of sets |
| 30% off | 40% of sets | 67% of sets | 60% of sets |
| 40% off | 24% of sets | 39% of sets | 36% of sets |
The answer depends on where you compare. Against a 30%-off sale in the UK, India still wins on 56 of 84 sets (67%), and in Europe on 50 (60%). Against a 30%-off sale in the US it wins on 34 (40%), which is two sets in five, not most. India is clearly the best place in this comparison only if foreign sales are shallow; if the best US sales run 40% off, the US wins more often than not.
I do not have a foreign sale price I can stand behind for any of these sets, so I will not say India is the cheapest place in the world. I can say that its best price is below every foreign shelf price on most sets, and below a typical foreign sale on a large share of them.
6. Where it works, and where it does not
The six sets where India’s best price is furthest under the US shelf price:

And the six where India does not win against the US shelf price (the dashed lines are the US shelf price at 100% and a 30%-off US sale at 70%):

No kind of set is guaranteed to win. The biggest gaps are on the McLaren and Red Bull cars, which are discounted deeply on Amazon India. The sets that do not win skew newer: five of the six came out in 2025 or 2026, including this year’s two helmets and the Hubble telescope. A set that has just launched is the one least likely to be on sale.

L = LEGO.in sale price, A = Amazon India. US, UK and EU: official recommended prices. “vs US” compares the best India price with the US shelf price at the exchange rates above.
7. So, is India the best place to buy LEGO?
Yes, with a condition that is the whole point: only during a sale. On an ordinary day India is level with the US and cheaper than the UK and Europe, which is fine but not special. In July, and most of all in the October festival sale, it is clearly better: the best India price beats the US shelf price on 78 of 84 sets, and beats even a 30%-off sale on 67% of sets in the UK, 60% in Europe and 40% in the US. A patient buyer in India does better than someone who pays the regular price anywhere I checked.
The rules I follow:
- Wait. The months that matter in my records are July and the October festival sale. Outside them, a discount is usually a number printed on the box, not a real saving.
- Judge a price against its usual price, not the MRP. MRPs are often set high. Gremlins: Gizmo (21361) has an MRP of ₹11,999, so its ₹6,929 price today is shown as 42% off. Against the ₹7,736 it has usually sold for, it is 10% under. A real sale is 25% or more under the usual price.
- Check both shops. The lower price was at LEGO.in on 47 of these sets and at Amazon India on 37.
- Look at the lowest price it has ever had. A good sale price is close to the set’s lowest on record. If it is not, a deeper cut may come.
- Do not expect a new set to drop. Newer sets are the ones most likely not to win.
- Read the conditions. LEGO.in limits some sets to three per household, and its sale has gifts and points that depend on how much you spend.
I keep a live list of the LEGO sets I track in India, with each one’s usual price, lowest price and a plain verdict, on the Lego watchlist. The shop-by-shop comparison for this week’s sale is here.
Sources and how this was done
- Which sets. All 52 sets in LEGO.in’s October sale plus every set I track on Amazon India: 95 sets with an official price abroad after leaving out 29 (14 retired sets, 2 with no official price, 8 sold only by resellers on Amazon, and 5 with no India price). 84 of the 95 have a price in India today.
- India prices. LEGO.in’s Brick Rush sale page (as of 7 October) and Amazon India’s main-seller price from my own records (as of 9 October 2026). Month-by-month figures use my records for 87 sets over the past year, 7 October 2025 to 9 October 2026. A price under a quarter of a set’s usual price is treated as an error and ignored.
- US, UK and EU official prices. Brickset and BrickRanker. For 48 of the 95 sets I read both and they gave the same prices; for the other 47 I could read only one of them, because Brickset limits how fast its pages can be read. Both sites are third-party databases, not LEGO itself, and I could not read LEGO.com.
- Exchange rates. Frankfurter, which publishes the European Central Bank’s reference rates, 9 October 2026.
- What I could not measure. Foreign sale prices, as explained in section 5, and what a US or UK buyer would have paid on the day.
- Limits. Prices include GST in India and VAT in the UK and Europe, and exclude sales tax in the US. Shipping, import duty and warranty are not counted: this compares the shelf price a buyer in each country sees. Amazon’s price moves daily, and LEGO.in’s sale ends 11 October. Sets sold by resellers rather than Amazon itself are left out, since that is not the going rate. A set’s exit date comes from the same databases and may be an estimate.
- I earn nothing from the LEGO.in, Brickset or BrickRanker links. Amazon links elsewhere on the site are affiliate links (as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases).
